Network Engineer

Full-time position in Irvine, California. Remote Option Available. 

Midlevel, Senior or Principal

Notorious' mission is to bring players together in deep worlds through our games. Our first game codenamed Project Honor intends to utilize game services like login, social features, matchmaking, player data and more.


As our Networking Engineer, you would be in charge of identifying our networking needs and either finding 3rd party solutions or build your own.


What project you'd be working on


We're currently building a new core fantasy RPG game for PC/Console using Unreal 5. Elements of this project include open worlds, core RPG fantasy theme, PvPvE, third-person action-based combat, player stories, and engaging systems. It's still very early and anything can change, which you can be a part of shaping.

Responsibilities


  • Collaborate with design and other system/gameplay engineers on key system needs such as login, matchmaking, player data and either build out in-house solutions or use 3rd party solutions where appropriate (i.e. Accelbyte, Pragma etc.)

  • Build or select existing persistence solutions 

  • Maintain and extend documentation on network-oriented features and systems

  • Debug and optimize existing gameplay networking


Required Qualifications


  • Experience shipping at least one AAA title

  • At least 4 years professional experience with C++

  • Knowledge of the basics of Client-Server network architecture.

  • Knowledge of industry-standard techniques for building networked service APIs. (ex. stateless architecture). HTTP, REST, gRPC, Websocket, TCP, SSL, JSON, Protobuf, OAuth and more.


Ideally, you have (but not required):


  • Experience building and/or deploying your own in-house game services

  • Familiarity with common technologies used for building or deploying service backends and their (for example: SQL, NoSQL, redis, memcached, Kubernetes, ansible)

  • Experience integrating with existing 3rd party services (PSN, Xbox Live, Steam, etc)

  • Experience with one or more programming languages commonly used for devops or service backends (python, Go, C#, Java)
