UI Artist (Contract)

Contract Only. Remote.

Midlevel to Senior

As a UI Artist specializing in materials at Notorious, you will play a pivotal role in defining the aesthetic and tactile feel of our game interfaces. Your expertise will bring to life the essential elements that interact directly with the player, such as icons, menus, and interactive game elements.

In this role, you will apply your artistic skills and technical knowledge to create visually compelling materials that enhance the player's experience. You will craft everything from textured surfaces that mimic real-world materials to fantastical elements that fit within our game's unique universe. Being part of Notorious's small but growing team offers a unique opportunity to significantly shape what we believe will be the next standout PvPvE RPG for an underserved audience.

What project you'd be working on

We're currently building a new core fantasy RPG game for PC/Console using Unreal 5. Elements of this project include open worlds, core RPG fantasy theme, PvPvE, third-person action-based combat, player stories, and engaging systems. It's still very early and anything can change, which you can be a part of.

  • Asset Creation and Concepting: Create and modify UI Art Assets while adhering to an established visual identity and cohesive visual language.

  • Material Creation and Implementation: Develop custom Ui Materials using the Unreal Material Editor and HLSL/GLSL/CG and implementing them using Blueprints and UMG.

  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with Designers and Artists to help realize the creative vision, while providing feedback and collaborative input.

  • Technical Integration: Work closely with engineers and technical designers to integrate UI Assets in engine.

  • Documentation and Style Guides: Create comprehensive documentation for UI/UX content guidelines and design specifications to be used by the development team.

Required Qualifications

  • Expertise in Unreal Engine 4+ with UMG UI Designer

  • Expertise in creating custom Materials (Shaders) using the Unreal Material Editor

  • Experience with implementing art and animation assets into engine via Unreal Blueprints

  • Ability to format art assets and interpret them for use in engine

  • Ability to create AAA quality UI art assets (Icons, Animations, Fonts, etc) within the Adobe Suite and Figma, from concept to implementation

  • Ability to format art assets and interpret them for use in engine

  • Expertise creating and maintaining visual style guides for UI Art and Design

  • Experience with implementing art and animation assets into engine via Unreal Blueprints

  • A profile showcasing your work

Ideally, you have (but not required):

  • Experience with both stylized and realistic art styles

  • Familiarity with creating or editing custom Materials (Shaders)
